Needle valve is used to control the flow rates of clean gasses or liquids accurately. It is a type of valve which contains a small port, needle shaped plunger. Needle valves supply reliable flow control for a range of applications using a variety of stem designs, flow patterns, materials, etc.
Types of Needle Valves
Manually operated threaded needle valve is the most commonly type of Needle valve. The other two variants are as follow.
- Motorized Needle Valve
- Angle Needle Valve.
Applications of Needle Valves
- Automatic combustion control systems
- For precise flow regulation is necessary
- To minimize the effects of fluctuations in pump discharge pressure
- Also be used as ON/OFF valves or for throttling service.
Advantages of Needle Valves:
- Flow control at low rate is very accurate.
- These valves can shut off easily.
- They are smaller in size.
- Flow rate can be adjusted accurately.
Disadvantages of Needle Valves:
- Pressure loss is high.
- Damages occurs if fluid has suspended solids
- Can’t determine the open or closed status of Needle valve by handle position.
